The Push Play Neighbourhood Project is a new initiative in the Warkworth and Mahurangi East region. The aim is to increase physical activity levels within the community by 5%.
Harbour Health is coordinating the project supported by funding from SPARC, Harbour Sport, Rodney District Council and ACC.
The project will support and develop local community initiatives to increase levels of physical activity and improve the general health and wellbeing of the people of Warkworth and Mahurangi East region.
With just 30 minutes of moderate physical activity on most days of the week we can all feel better and be healthier. Regular physical activity can reduce the risk of developing diabetes, high blood pressure and being overweight.
Aims of the Programme include:
- Encourage and support as many people as possible to be as active as possible.
- To form a collective of community members to promote physical activity and healthy lifestyles for the people of Warkworth.
- Undertake a needs analysis and identify what is currently available and why people are using or not using the programmes or facilities.
- To coordinate and support physical activity programmes to make them more accessible for everyone.
- Establish a sustainable programme of physical activity promotion.
- Support members of the community running physical activity events.
- Collect evaluation data for the project.
