Cardiovascular disease comes in many forms:
Heart attacks Angina Strokes
Transient ischaemic attacks (TIAs)
Peripheral vascular disease
Cardiovascular disease is caused by fatty deposits building up in the walls of your arteries causing narrowing – this is atherosclerosis.
To prevent this occurring there are risk factors you can change such as:
- Dietary pattern
- Physical inactivity
- Being overweight
- Smoking
- High blood pressure
- High blood cholesterol
- High blood glucose
You can estimate your risk by doing a ‘Cardiovascular Risk Assessment’ with your doctor or nurse.
