Pandemic planning (response to an Avian flu outbreak) is well underway to ensure the Primary Care sector in the Auckland Region is ready to respond to an Influenza pandemic. A plan for a Primary Care response has been agreed.
Consistent with national planning it separates patients into two streams, one for business as usual services and a separate stream for patients with suspected influenza.
DHB’s and PHO’s have together identified a network of practices in different geographical locations (called Key Practices) to manage business as usual services during a Pandemic, or any other emergency event.
For patients with Influenza like illness a network of Community Based Assessment Centres (CBACS) have been identified throughout the region, mostly located at Accident and Medical clinics.
There are a number of exercises planned to test the response from the health sector, this will test our systems to ensure we are ready to respond in the event of an emergency.
