For The Health Professionals:

Harbour Health has held a total of 16 Asthma Courses for Practice Nurses in the Auckland area, training well over 150 nurses.

Many of these nurses have taken their knowledge and developed Asthma Clinics within general practice.

The aim of nurse-led asthma clinics is primarily to improve the patient’s understanding of their asthma and medication, but also to enable an Action Plan to be developed between the nurse and patient.

This results in better self-management of asthma symptoms as they arise, rather than waiting until it is too late!

Respiratory Programmes offered by HARBOUR HEALTH in 2008.

Asthma is the 2nd most preventable hospital admission in the Waitemata DHB district for all ages up to 24 years. Unsurprisingly, the second most common avoidable admission for all ages over 65,is COPD.

Harbour Health has produced a web-based asthma assessment tool with decision support for GPs and trained asthma nurses to assess patients with chronic asthma more comprehensively.Click here to view the Web-based asthma tool
